Should You Get Carpet In Your Truck Topper?
It is a great idea. A topper covered with carpet is going to provide some insulation from heat and cold, though the most important benefit, I think, is less condensation.
This is particularly important if you’re going to be sleeping down there. With just bare fiberglass, water will collect everywhere and get on you.
If you haven’t yet purchased a camper shell and are on the fence about whether or not you should have it carpeted by the dealer, definitely let them do it.
It’s just more work having to do it by yourself. They are going to do a much better job, and use top of the line carpet anyway. You may not even have the option to have the topper lined with carpet after it gets out of the dealer.
Is it durable?
Oh yeah. Particularly if you get it done by the dealer.
You may even hose the carpet down every now and then to clean it up; though whether you could do the same with a carpet you’d lay down depends on the stuff you use, as well as how well you glued it up.
How to install the carpet by yourself
Like I mentioned before, doing this job is a bit of a chore, but nothing a little elbow grease can’t solve.
Some folks do it all while seated inside the bed, which isn’t the end of the world, but you’d be much happier if you could put the topper upside down on the ground.
Essentially what you need is the right material for the actual carpet, as well as good adhesive.
Marine carpet works wonders. If it’s good for boat weather, it should certainly work on a camper shell.
I like this choice from Amazon. As for the glue, 3M 90 is the tried and true product for this sort of thing.
